Inspiration for EMPI Collection

Stephanie creates jewels that are as diverse as the interests that inspire them. Her pieces commemorate 20 years of studying the traditional form of Japanese style Shotokan karate. In her debut collection, Stephanie found inspiration in EMPI, a black belt kata meaning “flying swallow.” This specific form of Kata demonstrates powerful yet graceful flow, reminiscent of the motions of a swallow in flight. The presence of movement and balance found both nature and in the practice of martial arts are incorporated within Stephanie’s creations and can be seen in the EMPI Collection through the stylized swallow motif. As a personal nod to inner strength and her inspirations, Stephanie includes a knot in her designs, because jewelry is not only beautiful, it’s personal.

Each one of Stephanie’s designs is unique and impressionistic, revealing her personality, attitude, and vision through fluidity, sculpture, textured details and color. She uses shades of natural gemstones in stunning color palettes that inspire romance, serenity and elegance that grace the body from dusk till dawn. Stephanie designs jewelry for your unique spirit.

Stephanie Occhipinti is a native New Yorker, proud mother of two teenage boys, and an industry-renowned jewelry designer. Her passion and love for jewelry started as early as 5 years old. Stephanie has honed her craft through 30 years of behind-the-scenes jewelry designing for some of the most successful fine jewelry markets in America. This is one of my first concept sketches of swallows in flight. The sculpted birds are seen throughout my EMPI Collection.

This original swallow bypass ring wax carving was created by the late James Bilello, Master Wax Carver. “It’s ready to be cast, set and polished!”
This Lotus Flower from my Japan trip this summer has a similar texture to my engraved swallow wings.
“Nature always amazes me.”
”The Winged Halo Ring” in its raw silver state shows how much attention and detail goes into finishing it. Its decorative back plate adds balance and all around beauty.
It was so much fun working with my model Tess on a photo shoot. The jewelry looked so amazing on her.  “What a beautiful day.”
