Empi means “flying swallow” in traditional Japanese style Shotokan Karate, a style of martial arts that Stephanie Occhipinti has practiced for twenty years. Characterized by the swooping up and down motions, this choreographed form of movements mimics the flight of that spirited bird. The EMPI Collection is named for this kata, capturing its continuous theme of natural fluidity in each handcrafted piece of jewelry. It includes two signature details: a small knot to symbolize each wearer’s inner strength, and a swallow in flight, the symbol of the Empi Kata.
